Impressions

On a moonless night in Badwater Basin, nearly three miles from the road, the desert became something far deeper than empty space. Surrounded by silence, salt, and darkness, I felt the strange union of vulnerability and calm that only remote places can offer. These salt polygons, formed over just a few years, seemed both delicate and enduring, their shifting patterns revealing how even a harsh landscape is quietly remade by time. As light brought out their ridges and fractures, the scene became a meditation on presence. Beneath the slow turning stars and above the stillness of the basin floor, I found a rare kind of peace: solitude that did not isolate, but clarify.
